Mon, 14 January 2008 We now have a website and two brand-new segments, Building Green and R3 (for reduce, reuse and recycle). Also, glazed carrots and turnips, organic home brewing and Seventh Generation HE detergent. As part of our changes to the show, the expanded show notes contain a lot more information, including the recipes (thanks Karen!)Building GreenA new segment focusing on the materials and technologies used in building "green" houses. In this episode, we tackle some of the issues with making existing homes more green and healthy.R3Sometimes green living can be work, but in this new segment, we'll show you how you can keep it from burning you out and how to reuse everyday items like you may have never thought! This show, we're discussing the basic idea of reusing and what is a "block swap"?RecipeThe Culinary School of the Rockies has given us an easy, quick side dish in the form of Glazed Carrots and Turnips:Ingredients3 Tbs. Butter1 lb. Baby carrots, well scrubbed OR medium carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces1 lb. Baby turnips, peeled and cut into quarters or eighths1/2 lb. Baby onions OR 1 large onion, roughly chopped1/2 cup Water or chicken stock1 - 2 Tbs. Sugar1/4 tsp. Thyme, dried1 - 2 Tbs. Parsley, fresh, choppedMethod 1. In a large heavy pan, melt 2 Tbs. of the butter over medium heat. Add the carrots, turnips and onions and toss to coat. 2. Add the stock or water and stir in the sugar and thyme. 3. Bring the vegetables to a boil over medium-high heat, then cover and simmer over medium heat for 8 - 10 minutes until the veggies begin to soften. Stir the veggies occasionally to keep them from sticking to the pan. Check the pan occasionally to see if more liquid needs to be added. 4. Uncover the pan and increase the heat to evaporate any remaining liquid, stirring frequently, until vegetables are lightly coated with the glaze. Add the remaining butter and chopped parsley. Stir until the butter melts.ReviewsOrganic home-brewing supplies from Seven Bridges Coop in Santa Cruz, CA. Sun, 30 September 2007 While we're not ready to begin a new season of shows, we are able to host the archives of the previous shows. Now iTunes will work again and I won't have to host them off my own server!I do plan to start recording again at some unknown time in the future, but for now, I'll just have a blog and the past shows. The actual blog page is not this one, it is at http://pgl.onawindingpath.net. Thanks to everyone who has written since we stopped recording and asked us to start this whole crazy adventure back up.
